New Law Protects Pennsylvanians Recovering Lost Money and Items – Yahoo Finance

By Jay Reeves, Associated Press August 4, 2014 Birmingham, Ala. An Alabama law restricting doctors at abortion clinics is unconstitutional because it would unduly hamper women’s ability to obtain the medical procedure, a federal judge ruled Monday.

Extorting money from desperate normal people by using Official-Looking Paperwork is a great hustle, because most people who are in debt have become so terrified of Official-Looking Letters that they will automatically acquiesce to their Official-Sounding Demands. Furthermoreas law firms knowthe average person does not understand the U.S. legal system, and wants nothing more than to steer clear of it entirely, and certainly does not have the knowledge, time, or resources to properly contest a court case, so the courts are a great mechanism for terrifying people in order to extort some money from them, whether they really owe you that money or not.

Law Firms Are Some of the Dirtiest Debt Collectors

McCord stressed that Pennsylvanians, businesses and other organization can always claim their property for free directly from the state Treasury Department. “The vast majority of finders operate within the law, and they can provide a valuable service to some people who may either not know they have unclaimed property, or need help to retrieve it,” McCord said. “Unfortunately, however, a relative few take advantage of those who are not fully aware of their rights.” Under long-standing Pennsylvania law, finders are permitted to charge up to 15 percent of the amount they help to claim. Treasury has regularly seen instances, however, of some finders charging a higher percentage, illegally adding additional fees on top of the allowable percentage, or fraudulently claiming the money or property themselves and passing only a small portion on to the rightful owner.

Cosgrove Law Group Issues Legal Opinion On Proposed Missouri Constitutional Amendment 1

Saint Louis, Missouri (PRWEB) August 01, 2014 Cosgrove Law Group issued an in-depth legal opinion on Missouri House Joint Resolution Numbers 11 & 7, which will appear on the August 5, 2014 ballot as Constitutional Amendment 1. The legal opinion reviewed the extent of the right the amendment grants farming and ranching practices, the effect of adoption of the Amendment on pre-existing law, the effect of Article IV on local government control, and the placement of this Amendment in Article 1 of the Missouri Constitution. The legal opinion also reviews specific definitions of key words used in the proposed Amendment Cosgrove Law Groups legal opinion concluded that the Amendment, if approved, could potentially restrict reasonable regulation relating to livestock operating practices, potentially bars state measures relating to farming or ranching because article IV addresses only local powers, and thus may create an inference that the amendment is not subject to state powers, and could have a substantial impact on existing legislation. A summary of the legal opinion can be found at Cosgrove Law Groups blog: http://cosgrovelawllc.com/blog/general-litigation/ Cosgrove Law Group offers such legal opinion services on proposed legislation, ballot initiatives, and other matters of public importance. Earlier this year, AGC released a legislative plan for improving access to training for workers. Although the new workforce act was a part of that plan, other elements included reforming the Perkins Actthe primary funding vehicle for U.S.

Federal appeals court deals blow to health law – Yahoo News

Court deals blow to Obamacare

In a case before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, a group of small business owners argued that the law authorizes subsidies only for people who buy insurance through markets established by the states not by the federal government. A divided court agreed, in a 2-1 decision that could mean premium increases for more than half the 8 million Americans who have purchased taxpayer-subsidized coverage under the law.

Mlb – Keith Law’s Top 50 Mlb Prospects – Espn

At the MLB season’s halfway point, and in the wake of the deadline to sign draftees, I put together an update of the top 50 prospects in baseball, given that a number of players from my top 100 rankings , which came out in January, have graduated to the majors. In ranking these players, I tend to weigh upside or ceiling more heavily than proximity to the majors. The list includes a mixture of players as high as Double-A or Triple-A as well as a few who signed in recent weeks who have yet to make their professional debuts. Players who have already passed the cutoff for rookie of the year eligibility are not included here, nor anyone currently on a major league roster. Note: I use the 20-80 grading scale in these comments to avoid overuse of the terms “average” and “above average” across the player comments. On that scale, a grade of 50 equals major league average, 55 is above average, 60 is plus, 45 is fringe or below average, and so on.
